Join us on an unforgettable Desert and Wildlife Tour through the South Okanagan

Experience the unforgettable as you travel by foot in Canada’s only desert.  This Desert and Wildlife Tour showcases the fascinating and rare plants and animals of one of the most unique and endangered ecosystems in Canada!  It also features some of the highest species diversity in all of Canada. If photography is your thing, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to capture wildlife and scenic photos. While in the South Okanagan Valley you’ll also enjoy the picturesque views of Vaseux and Osoyoos Lakes and Anarchist Mountain.

You’ll be visiting 3 unique Wildlife Protection Areas

You will be visiting one of the four most endangered ecosystems in Canada.  Here you’ll and have an opportunity to walk through some of the last remaining sage and antelope bush habitats. At the White Lake Grasslands Protected Area you’ll also see fascinating creatures like Canada’s only praying mantis and the Northern Scorpion.

Grab your viewing scope and check out the vast numbers of birds from the Vaseux Lake boardwalk and viewing tower.  This is home to the Vaseux Lake Migratory Bird Sanctuary; one of the best bird viewing areas in Canada.  Here you can commonly see Trumpeter Swans, Loons, Great Blue Herons, Lewis Woodpeckers and Western Screech Owls.  This area is a true bird watchers paradise!  Out of the 340 recorded bird species in Canada, 205 have been observed at Vaseux Lake!

The third wildlife protected area is the Vaseux-Bighorn National Wildlife Area .  This is where you’re likely to see California Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Goats or Bats!

Touring the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Center with a local snake expert, you’ll have a chance to examine the large variety of plant and animal life unique to the area.  Search for snakes such as the Yellow-Bellied Racer, Pocket Desert Gopher Snake and see the Western Rattlesnake live and up close!

The South Okanagan Desert & Wildlife Tour typically lasts approximately 8 hours and is rated as easy.

We’ll stop for lunch at the Greenside Grill. Please note that the cost of lunch and gratuities are not included in the tour price.

What’s Included

Your guide will pick you in our luxury air conditioned van, with the exact time to be confirmed by the tour provider depending on where you are.

Admission to the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Center and their Snakes Alive Program is included.

Please bring with you; comfortable walking shoes, a water bottle ( minimum 1 L), a snack, hat and sunscreen and binoculars or viewing scopes if you have them.
